Youth Activity Groups
Come join one of our exciting groups for youth and adolescents! Individuals do not need to be enrolled in services at CHD in order to attend, activities are open educational groups —anyone can join.  Strengthen social connections and learn new skills in these exciting weekly groups. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged to help with planning and supplies. Register for yourself or a family member using the form below.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are Activity Groups? 
CHD operates a number of prevention, education and outreach activities for children and youth in Union County.  Many of these groups are open to any young person that desires to connect with other youth, increase their self-efficacy and build skills such as communication and resilience. Young people can increase their mental health and wellbeing by participating in these activities. 

Who Operates These Activity Groups?
CHD Employees such as Qualified Mental Health Professionals, Qualified Mental Health Associates, Case Managers and Certified Peer Mentors coordinate various groups.  CHD partners with the 906 Youth Center, Cook Memorial Library and other agencies for certain activities.

Is There a Cost to Attend?
No. There is no cost to attend these group activities.  

When Do The Groups Operate?
Most groups only meet once each week, during the summer. See below for more information.

My Child is Not seeing a Counselor at CHD: Can They Attend One of These Groups?
Yes!  A pre-registration is requested to help plan for supplies. Please submit the pre-registration form above.

My Child Requires Accommodation for Some Activities, Can They Attend One of These Groups?
We will make efforts to meet individual needs for youth with disabilities.  Please contact CHD Children’s Team to discuss beforehand. 

Some of The Groups Are Already Open. Can My Child Still Join?
Yes, some of the activity groups have been operating for CHD enrolled clients, and space is being increased over the summer.  It’s not too late to join!

Summer 2024 Groups

Baking Group
The Baking Group offers children and youth an opportunity to learn baking skills in a fun and interactive environment. Participants engage in hands-on baking activities, fostering creativity and culinary skills. Location: CHD. For children and youth ages 5-18. Mondays, from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM.  Open now through August 26th.

Art Out Loud
Art Out Loud allows youth to practice emotional expressions and coping skills through multiple art mediums. For ages 11-18. Two options: 1) At the 906 youth center (906 Sixth Street, La Grande). Thursdays, 3:00-5:00 PM. 2) Cook Memorial Library, Friday’s 3:00-4:00 PM.

Activities Group
Learn about healthy hobbies, practice positivity and connect with peers during this group.  Location: 906 Youth Center (906 Sixth Street, La Grande). Ages 8-16 years. Monday, 1:30-2:30 PM.

M & M’s (My Mind Matters) Group
Through interaction and hands on activities, children and youth will learn new ways to utilize coping skills to overcome anxious/nervous thoughts or feelings.  Location: CHD (2301 Cove Avenue, La Grande). Ages 10-15. Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30 PM.

Boy’s Council
Utilizing peer education and resilience-based curriculum, this weekly group will support the transition from child to teenage years.  Location: La Grande Middle School.  For incoming 6th-8th graders. Wednesday’s, 10:00am-11:00 AM.

Video Games and Healthy Habits
Play games, learn healthy habits, and safety practices for youth playing interactive games on the internet.  Location: 906 Youth Center (906 Sixth Street, La Grande). Ages 12-16 years. Wednesdays, 3:30-4:30pm.

Courage Caching Chasers
Adolescents and youth will practice building courage, trying new things, problem solving and skill development. Location: CHD. Ages 10-16.  Schedule: June 13th and June 27th, 1:00pm-4:00pm, then Thursdays, 11:00am-4:00pm July 11th through August 22nd.

Disc Golf
Youth will play the challenging game of disc golf and discuss aspects of healthy hobbies and activities. This group also brings in education about interpersonal skills, communication and mindfulness. Location: EOU disc golf course (Meet outside Quinn Coliseum). Ages 12-18. Wednesday’s 3:30-5:00pm.
